2011 Games Review
Game time temp was 57 and rose to 60 on a mostly cloudy afternoon, perfect for our six event competition. Attendees this year totalled 41 souls. This was our fifth consecutive year for this event and we were honored, once again, with the inspiring bagpipe tunes of Franklin McQuay. We are always amazed at the ever-changing face of the year-to-year experience, the athletes and guests who support us. We thank God for each of you; you all made this another memorable gathering.
Introductory remarks focused on our tradition and the highlights of each of the preceding Games and was capped with a reading of McHaggus' "Ode Magnificent" on his return to competition after a brief hiatus. It is reprinted here for your enjoyment.
"We're old Scotch drinkers
but we still have some clout
the young-bucks - they don't scare us none
our plans for revenge have just begun
Our bodies are old but full of muscle
What we lack in skills we make up for with hustle
If you think we'll sit back
You're in for a tussle
Sure you guys think you're so built
Have you ever seen McBurley in his extra-short kilt?
Legs like tree trunks and a barrel chest
When he throws the sheaf, you'll be quite impressed
And who's this young buck that won the last crown?
Did he grab my trophy when McHaggus was down?
Well that's not fair and not all that slick
To become number one while I lay at home sick
So the old guys will be there
To fiercely compete and labor
I just hope I have lots of points
before throwing that damn caber
Game on!"
