Where & When The Inaugural gathering of The McCullough Scottish Games was held Saturday, 3 Nov 07 at 1:30 PM at the residence of Mike and Robin McCullough. Clear skies prevailed.
Our festival for 2008 will be held October 25th, the last Saturday in the month. The 2008 Games and Festival will feature an expanded men's competition (more competitiors and more strength events), a ladies competition (if we can have three or four daring lasses), a late afternoon Celtic concert, preceeded by slight of hand. Our expanded schedule will necessitate a late morning start. Our 2008 event will be a charity benefit to support Compassion International; your voluntary contributions at the concession tent as well as a portion of the proceeds from concert ticket sales will be directed to this ministry. Order your concert tickets now on-line. Information for our Guests If you plan on joining us on October 25, 2008, please take a minute of your time to complete our guest registration form; this will be most helpful for us to plan appropriately for food and parking. Information for Competitors The field of athletes who participated in the 2007 Games comprised Paul McCullough, Mike McCullough, and Chuck Trader, all competing in their first Highland games. Heavy athletic events of the day featured the caber toss, the sheaf toss, open stone put and a stone throw for height. The 2008 Games will see the addition of the weight for height throw, a one-handed over the bar toss of 35 pounds, and the light hammer throw, 16 pounds. The thowing technique of the open stone put will be changed to that used for the Braemar stone, one-handed from a standing position only. Caber News Flash!! The competition caber, weighing in at 75 lb for the 03 Nov 07 Games, is rated at 389, which puts it in the typical range, 300 - 600, for men's "C" (novice) class. A new mens' caber is planned for the 2008 Games, with the goal of exceeding 15 ft and 90 lb. for a caber rating between 500 and 600. Both cabers will be offered to our male competitors. The 2008 caber was felled on March 9th; soon it will be trimmed to size and shaped up. Piper News!! We are very pleased that Franklin McQuay piped at the 2007 Games and look forward to his return engagement. Thank you, Franklin!
