Michael McCullough
Past competitive sports experience (1980 - 1986) was in foot races, biathlons and triathlons. My interests were first in running and then cycling. Recent skills training in Scottish athletics began in the summer of 2007. Since the Highland games events focus on strength and technique my training has included weight lifting and separate event practice. To improve overall fitness I'm pursuing other competitive events in 2008.
Competitions in 2008

Apr 26th, Hagerstown Duathlon Series#1 at Martin L. Snook Park in Hagerstown, MD, to raise funds for the Cedar Ridge Children's Home. This was my first run-bike-run race ever. Out of a field of 70 competitors I placed 37th with a time of 1:23:13. The first leg of this event was a 2 mile run, followed by a 10 mile bike and finished with a 3.1 mile run. See

June 15th, Tri To Win, Sprint Triathlon in Westminster, MD, to benefit the Joanna Nicolay Melanoma Foundation. See my
fundraiser page. Many thanks to my sponsors for this race: Ashish Chawla, Lauri Blatt, Diane Breeden, Paul McCullough, and Laura Zywicki-Payne who collectively contributed $181.00 of their funds to support the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation. You'll be astounded to know that "champion" participants in this years Tri-To-Win event raised $30,000 for the Foundation!
The sprint triathlon began with a 400 meter pool swim, then to a 14.7 mile bike through the hills of southern Carroll County, and finished with a 3.1 mile run. My composite time for the race was 1:44:58 for a finish position of 184 out of 281 finishers; see all
results. Weather was tolerable and race support staff were great. I did not sustain any bike mishaps during the race, although on my pre-race ride of June 10th I took a wrong turn, getting way off course and got a flat. You can view four
